Chester County Food Bank’s Virtual Food Drive
Organized by Chester County Food Bank
Thousands of older neighbors in our community struggle to have enough food. Some must make the difficult decision between paying for medicines, rent, or utility bills. Unfortunately, after a lifetime of hard work thousands of older neighbors in Chester County face difficult choices every day needing to decide between, pay for medicines, rent, or groceries. Our research tells us 61.5% of eligible households in Pennsylvania with a 65+ person, are NOT enrolled to receive SNAP benefits (formerly Food Stamps). This is why we are making assistance programs like SNAP enrollment a priority and joining with our network partners to bring awareness to changing eligibility requirements.
The Chester County Food Bank offers several programs that older adults are eligible to receive even if they do receive SNAP. Our Senior Food Boxes and Simple Suppers (heat & eat meals) are specifically created for our senior population, focusing on fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and reduced-sodium and sugar content.
The CCFB Senior Food Box is available to anyone age 60+ whose household income is at or below 150% of the U.S. poverty level ($19,140 annually for a household of one, or $25,860 for a household of two).
During Older Americans Month, we hope you will support our programs that help nourish a population of people with an increased risk of chronic health conditions, including diabetes and high blood pressure — conditions that can be mitigated by healthy every day food options.
